Dear Friends,
Like any of you dealing with artificial intelligence in Automotive, I have been closely following the statements of Prof. Şahin Albayrak from his interviews.
Artificial intelligence News journalists Şule GÜNER has quoted recently an important information from her interview with Albayrak. https://turkeyai.com
As known , Prof. Şahin Albayrak is the head of the project transforming 17. Juni Boulevard into a smart road for autonomous vehicles in Berlin. This road which is 3.8 km long and called Protocol Road, was chosen as pilot path in digitisation. Project has begun in April 2017 and it is planned to be completed in 2021. The fact that autonomous cars will be on the road in Europe in 5 years refers to the importance of this road.
According to Albayrak, this artificial intelligence system is based on connecting the sensors and traffic lights on the highway, or rather talking to each other. Sensors to be placed within the range of 80 meter distances will allow the vehicle to travel safely on the driverless mood , called Level Five, leaving the follow-up task one to the other. Not only adults, but seniors and children will also be able to travel without the need for a driver. This digital system will become a standard in coming years. The tools will create a full digital environment by talking to each other and their surroundings. Information received from this digital medium will also be sent to the Centers of autonomous vehicle manufacturers. When people get on the road, everything will be digital. It will also enable people to learn about this transformation.
Albayrak attributes the cause of traffic accidents during autonomous vehicle trials in the United States to the lack of sensors installed on roads often enough. He says the fear that there will be accidents in autonomous vehicles is not true. He notes that a driver’s slalom- style drive should not be concerned that it would pose a danger to a driverless vehicle. The driverless vehicle will be able to take precautions. Maybe autonomous car will move to the far right lane where it finds itself safer, maybe lower its speed. But as a result, it will be able to detect any movement that poses a danger to traffic.
With the digitisation of the road transport system, new areas of expertise are to emerge, requiring professional people driving vehicles to be directed to these new business areas.
Germany transfers € 5 million in funding every two years for the roads to become digital. It was envisaged that 17. Juni Boulevard would be completed at a cost of € 10 million. We will continue to monitor its progress.
Scientist Prof. Dr. Albayrak is reputable artificial intelligence expert, Being a Turkish native , all of us are proud of his challenges in transforming European roads into intelligent ones. May be one day we will be able to get his expertise to digitize our country’s road transport system . I hope we’re not too late.
