Dear friends,

This week, I’m going to tell you about a recent development in the automotive world for energy efficiency. This development reveals significant steps towards reducing carbon footprint.
Recently, dear friend of mine and lecturer of Yıldız Technical University , Prof. Dr. Ibrahim KIRCOVA, told me about an article of triplepundit.com published on May 30, 2019. According to that article, General Motors ( GM ) implemented a total of 21 energy efficiency projects in 2018. As a result, they acquired $ 2.8 million in return.
GM’s recovery in the last 10 years has resulted in outstanding revenue up to $ 13.3 million at their several factories in Michigan.
Energy efficiency and renewable energy investments by GM achieved 20% reduction in carbon density by capturing the target set in 2010.
Currently, 10% of the energy consumed by GM is renewable . This rate is targeted to be 100% by 2050. For this purpose, a series of wind power plant investments have been initiated throughout Michigan State.
Whether or not the US Government is within the scope of Paris 2015 agreement, this development shows how important it is for U.S. industrial corporations that are concerned about reducing their carbon footprint for the future.
I will continue to share with you the same tangible developments from other global automotive brands.

Now, let’s get to the news that belongs to us. My friends, who follow my articles remember well my article dated May 20, 2019, I mentioned the new legislation on the agenda of the parliament. This legislation was adopted by the General Assembly on Thursday, May 30, 2019. Thus, the upper limit of scrap reduction for vehicles over 16 years of age was raised from 10 thousand TL to 15 thousand TL
However, we understood that there is no change in the definition of SCT accrual for the vehicle to be scrapped. As I underlined earlier, new definition was of clear need to cover all cars produced locally. This year, automotive sales have fallen to 50%. It would definitely be beneficial for all of us as it would help mitigating severe drop in sales, saving environment by eliminating more scraps , ensuring fuel economy and traffic safety. It seems that opportunity has run away.  What to say? Let us look forward to catching another happy medium.

See you in my next articles.
